Caring for the elderly
"It's one of my favourite things: introducing a new resident and helping them settle into their new home" says the Manager of Edlington Park.
It may have been a bit of a wrench for them to move - some residents have lived in the same house for many, many years. And yet it is an absolute joy to see the relief that sweeps their faces when they realise the whole new way of life they can enjoy, and the freedom and happiness they can have living with us.
They are free from day-to-day worries, have an incredibly active social life here, many new friends in both the other residents and the staff young and old and they know they are cared for right down to the smallest detail.
We are like a family, a community, and while staff are meticulous about the medical care and support of our residents we never lose sight of the fact that we care for people who have lived often remarkable lives, with wonderful stories to tell and knowledge to share with all of us.
It is in every way a privilege to care for the older members of our society and give them the confidence to feel independent as they perhaps never really have before. To organise events for them to have fun or just relax, have their friends and family visit them whenever is convenient and generally make their lives as happy and contented as possible.
This is what we do at our care home. It’s the same at every Mimosa care home.
How to support the elderly
With either independent resources, their family or social services assistance an older person can move from a challenging, sometimes anxiety-fraught existence into a home where they are among friends and associates, not isolated but instead an integral, valued part of a small community.
