Warren Park in Chapeltown, Sheffield recently held a Gallery Open Day. This was the opportunity to exhibit all craft work done by residents, staff and relatives for the Creative Arts in Dementia exhibition which will take place at Sheffield Hallam University in April.
James Cranmer, Home Manager said, " I am extremely proud of the fantastic artwork the residents have done. Everyone who took part really enjoyed themselves and it was a wonderful chance for them to express themselves!"
The first poem below was written by a resident, the second is by a residents' family members:
It's The Little Things That Matter
It's the little things that matter
As we said before
The dining room experience
Shouldn't leave me wanting more
Ask me where I'd like to sit
Ask me with whom too
If you went out for a meal one day
You'd choose wouldn't you?
Laying all the tables
Making napkins fanned
It makes me quite excited
To see the meal you've planned
Will chef come in today and ask me, "Was that nice?"
It's lemon meringue this evening
Will you offer it to me twice?
Bring the tablets later - I don't want to be disturbed!
Listen to my requests please
I just want to be heard!
A Home For Dad
We went to look around this place
A new home for our dad
We were greeted with a smiling face
It didn't half look bad
He took us through into the lounge
Where laughter filled the room
With fives and threes and DVDs
And karaoke afternoons
A little old lady came to us
She touched Dad's frail old hand
She asked if he would like some tea
And come and meet the band
There's Joe and Sid and Mary too
Eileen, John and Fred
Dad looked up at me and Mike
And smiled ..."Is that alright?" he said
"Why not take a look around?
He'll be alright you know,
He couldn't be in better hands,
She'll look after him with Flo"
I looked at Mike and he at me
The relief that we both had
At last we'd found the PERFECT PLACE
A home for our dearest Dad.
