Caring for those with dementia-type illnesses

"The world can be a fast-changing illusion of a place for those with dementia and related illnesses" says the Manager of Moorlands.

Our staff are very aware that a certain kind of patient gentleness is of great benefit to the dementia sufferers we care for. The condition involves a continuing loss of remembering, reasoning and thinking skills and as such the symptoms can be elusive, vary from mild to severe and manifest differently in different people.

While most people think of the elderly when they think of dementia, because it is a condition that affects the brain rather than a specific disease, younger people can also experience dementia symptoms.

From feeling confused and having mood changes through to not 'being themselves', people experiencing dementia have such a range of symptoms which are unsettling to them that consistency of environment and routine can be of enormous help. They find this, and a completely non-judgmental kind of care, at Mimosa.
