Jamie started at Dunniwood Lodge as a General Assistant and has recently taken the position of Care Assistant. In the short time that she has been in this position she has shown an outstanding ability to perform her role in a professional and caring manner. Jamie is an extremely caring young lady who goes above and beyond her job description to ensure that all residents are appropriately cared for and that visitors are welcome. No request is too much and Jamie portrays a cheerful, happy demeanour. She has made me an extremely proud manager. - Kelly Woods

She deserves a Star Award for her her hard work and dedication to Rufford. - Mue Broadhurst
Donna and All the Staff, Nethercrest Residential, Netherton (12 June) - My mother has been at Nethercrest since it was with a Co-operative home, but since Mimosa and in particular, since Donna Baker has run the home, the improvement in care, staffing levels and the lovely girls that work there is 100% better than it has ever been. My mother is 96, frail and needing lots of help. The girls treat her with love and respect. Vicki her key worker is absolutely smashing. The girls have made it a real home for mum and become part of her family. I know this is a difficult job and I just want to tell you officially how much it is appreciated. Many thanks. - Elaine Novak
Roseleigh Staff, Roseleigh, Middlesbrough (11 June) - Once again I am writing to you on behalf of my family to express our huge appreciation of the staff at Roseleigh. Some time ago I wrote to express our family's enormous gratitude to every single member of staff and now, once again I would like to say why we continue to be so very impressed with the continued care and support shown, not only to our mother, but also to all our family and friends who visited mam at Roseleigh.
After six weeks in hospital, very sadly our dear mother passed away peacefully on 14th May, a day which we will always remember. Throughout her stay in hospital, even up until her last day, members of the team from Roseleigh continued to visit mam on their days off to cheer her up and encourage her to get well so that they could take her back to Roseleigh to continue to look after her. That was what we all wanted so much but, sadly, it was not to be.
As my sister and I were no longer visiting Roseleigh, but the hospital instead, the ever-caring carers sent us both texts of encouragement and support to help us through our difficult days, enquiring after mam, after us, hoping we were coping with the strain. We will never, ever forget this generosity of spirit in our 'hours of need'.
Mother's funeral was on 24th May at Middlesbrough Crematorium. There, to our great surprise, about 15 carers attended - the vast majority of them on their day off! We will never forget driving in the crematorium grounds towards the chapel, surprised at being met with the unexpected view of so many friends from Roseleigh, all in their uniforms, as a mark of respect for their role and their utmost dedication to our family right up until the end of mother's journey on earth. We did not expect to see so many of them giving up their own time in memory of our dear mother. They all sat together, a whole long row of a brilliant and totally dedicated, professional team which I am now privileged to call friends - what a memory! Throughout the service, every time I glanced across to them, I felt their whole-hearted support through the warm vibes of care they sent across the chapel. What more could anyone wish or hope for?
One of the last precious gifts our mother was able to give us was an awareness of the wonderful work that goes on, day after day, in care homes such as Roseleigh. She has left us with the acquaintance and friendship of a whole new group of dedicated professionals whom it has been our great privilege to get to know.
You have a wonderful team at Roseleigh. We will value the team and support it forever in its work to help and care for the elderly residents at Rosleigh. With best wishes and many thanks - Alma Hellaoui and family
Rufford Staff, Rufford, Worksop (10 June) - My sister is resident at the Rufford Care Centre and has been since October 2010. We have every confidence in Rufford's attention to my sister's needs and well-being. When visiting (unannounced) she has always been smartly dressed and enjoying all that Rufford has to offer. At our last visit we noticed particularly how smartly her hair had been done. We find the staff we meet to be friendly, co-operative and in rapport with my sister. Telephone enquiries as to her well being have always been answered fully and frankly. We are always able to see her privately when visiting and speak to the staff as required. We are only too pleased to feel confident that my sister is being well looked after. - K.L
Birchlands Staff, Birchlands, Haxby, York (3 June) - I would just like to say a very big thank you to ALL the staff who work at Birchlands.Tthey are all so hard working and also so cheerful in the way they do their job. I have just returned from an extended sick leave. The home was spotless and everything was running smoothly. On a personal note, whilst I was off, I received not only get well cards and flowers, but birthday cards, presents and then more cards when my grandson was born. I think there is a great "team" atmosphere here and it is down to ALL OF YOU.....THANK YOU EVERYONE. XX - Judith Cumiskey
Sindhu Jose, Birchlands, Haxby, York (3 June) - I would like to nominate my Deputy Sindhu, for all her hard work. I have just returned to work from an extended sick leave and whilst I was away, she has kept everything in the home up to standard. She has dealt with an inspection, staff leaving, lots of managerial issues, and all this whilst having to "RUN " her own nursing floor too. All this she does with a smile, in a calm and professional manner. I would like to say well done and a very big thank you, it has made my return that much easier. - Judith Cumiskey
Adrianne Egan, Sunnymead Manor, Bristol (2 June) - Today one of your staff Adrianne Egan came in with a client. Adrianne was very cheerful and very warm towards the lady in her care, she spoke to her about what was happening throughout her appointment and was really caring and kind. She held the client's hand, was friendly and generally did a fantastic job. She treated the lady as if she were a member of her own family and deserves to be recognised for the wonderful care she is giving. Very well done Adrianne - keep up the good work! - Kelly Johnson (Bristol Eye Hospital)
Danni Hartless, Helen Guest and Helen Wilcox, The Willows, Codsall (31 May) - I would like to nominate Danni (chef), who is always caring, thoughtful and very cheerful and Helen Guest (Deputy Manager) who is always professional, helpful and efficient. I would also like to nominate Helen Wilcox. The Willows has a happy, cheerful atmosphere, not always the case in care homes. Much of this is down to the manager and how she always puts the needs of the residents first. The staff are encouraged to create a happy environment, Helen makes time for everyone and everyone is equal. She is a diamond and deserves far more than this star award. I consider that my mom is very lucky to be living in such a special place at the age of 90 - all thanks to Helen and her staff. - Vicky Pearson
Sindhu Jose, Birchlands, Haxby, York (17 May) - The staff at Birchlands Care Home in York would like to nominate Sindhu Jose for a Mimosa Care Star Award. Sindhu is our Deputy Manager and she does a great job - she always has a smile on her face, even on difficult days. She is a nurse foremost but still has a managerial role to carry out - it cannot be easy and we just want her to know we really appreciate her. - All the Staff
All the Staff, Longlands, Middlesbrough (9 May) - I was truly impressed and touched by the professional manner and genuine caring shown towards my father, Jim Manders, and towards my mother and myself during a very difficult time. When my mother and I were looking for somewhere for my father to stay while my mother had a week of much needed respite we looked at a few local care homes. We noticed the warm, homely atmosphere immediately on entering the Longlands Care Home. We liked the manner of the staff and that they were not worried to leave us alone with residents - who were unstinting in their praise. We used this visit as a bench mark with which to compare other homes. My father was booked in for 9 nights but after 3 nights needed to go into hospital. On his discharge the generosity of the manager, Jenny, allowed Dad to return there for assessment and convalescence, despite the period of the original booking being over. On his birthday the staff gave Dad a birthday card and chocolates. Sadly, Dad was readmitted to hospital after two days, and he died a week later. I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the staff at this care home. In this home they really care! They showed understanding and compassion towards the three of us, both before and after my Dad's death. They were vigilant and professional, always acting in my father's best interests, and the actions they took were both appropriate and timely. The Care Home sent two of their staff as representatives to Dad's funeral, and also a card and a floral tribute. Their kindness and concern were much appreciated. Especially as they had not had long to get to know my Dad - he was with them a total of only 5 nights. As a daughter and a Registered Nurse of many years experience I consider myself well-qualified to comment on both their professionalism and their humanity. They are a credit to your company and an example of what care home staff should be. - Marion Manders
Ruth Orencia, Birchlands, Haxby, York (9 May) - She always has a smile on her face. Her presence makes such a difference. She stops and spends the time of day. She is a lovely young lady. - Mick
Leanne Houlibeqc, Birchlands, Haxby, York (9 May) - She is always polite and willing to help me. Nothing is too much trouble for her. She goes that extra mile and always with a smile on her face. - Mick
Geoffrey Woodhead, Birchlands, Haxby, York (9 May) - He is very thoughtful young man. Nothing is too much trouble and he makes my life at Birchlands more bearable. He puts me at ease with his caring and friendly manner. - Mick
Jen Addams and Twinkle Varghese, Headingley Court, Doncaster (5 May) - It is always difficult to single out people for a commendation but Jen Addams who I believe is the activities co-ordinator is a live wire in organising events and raising much needed funds for the benefit of the residents. She has a natural ability to ensure that the residents get the best out of the events that are organised and seems tireless in her enthusiasm for the tasks. Twinkle is a nurse at Headingley court and is always cheerful and whenever my wife and I visit our daughter who is a resident there, she always greets us and tells us the situation regarding our daughter. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for her and she is always cheerful and welcoming. These ladies are two members of staff at Headingley who are a credit to the organisation and must be a great assett to the smooth running of the care home. - Brian and Janet Cutts
Wendy Ogden and Carly Radnedge, Honeymead, Bedminster, Bristol (29 April) - For going the extra mile for the clients at Honeymead. Since my arrival here these two staff members give up their own time to ensure that the residents at Honeymead are able to celebrate all occasions with diginity, care and thorough enjoyment. They are a driving force in advocacy for person centred care within the extra curricular activities for our clients. The quality of the food experience within their own positions is exceptional and truely home cooked. I feel very proud to have these ladies as part of our team at Honeymead. - Shirley Ruane
Wendy Ogden and Carly Radnedge, Honeymead, Bedminster, Bristol (28 April) - For all the hard work they have put in organising a party for the residents on the royal wedding day. Wendy is the Chef and Carly a Kitchen Assistant - they have done this work mostly in their own time, making banners, cakes etc and truly working above and beyond the call of duty! - Janet Hoskins
Andy Stewart, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop (27 April) - I take my hat off to this man for the total dedication he has shown to this home since he has been here. He is the nicest, most honest, caring and dedicated, warm hearted, hardworking man I have ever known. He is fantastic and caring towards all his residents and is always there when you need help, advice and support. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him. I personally would like to thank him for all the effort he has put into this home and for sticking by this home throughout some very difficult times, supporting residents and staff all the way through and for having faith in us all. Thank you. This man is a great assett to this home and the company. Mimosa should be proud to have him on board he is one in a million. - Maggie Bowers
Janet Hoskins, Honeymead, Bristol (14 April) - Jan is always the first person I meet when I visit Honeymead, and is always friendly and curteous to all that know her. Jan will help in any way she can, and always offers the home's hospitality to all. This lady goes above and beyond the call of duty and should be recognised for that fact. If I ever need Jan's help I can count on it being given. When under pressure Jan has a clear head and is a wise team player. Truly a peoples' person who can adapt to all that is asked of her. - David Rees
Pauline Cartlidge, Linda Buffham, Dunniwood Lodge, Doncaster (12 April) - Words cannot begin to describe the total care, kindness, help, consideration, love, patience and understanding that has been and is continually shown by all Dunniwood Staff towards my Mum, Muriel Ashmore. Mum has resided at Dunniwood Lodge for a little over 11 years now, having suffered poor health, and unfortunately, her health has deteriorated considerably over a period of time. However, were it not for the daily care she had and does receive from everyone at Dunniwood, and in particular from Pauline Cartlidge and Linda Buffham, my Mum would not be alive today. She does require a fair amount of medication, but this in itself cannot provide a hug, a smile and a kind word! Her and my gratitude is endless, and because my husband and I reside in Spain at the moment, and have no other family to help out, these wonderful people at Dunniwood have become our dear friends and "family" over the years. The reassuring care given to my Mum is so hugely appreciated, even moreso because of my own poor health issues, and I thank them all for everything every single day. - Rosemary Kenworthy
All the staff, Dunniwood Lodge, Doncaster (6 April) - My mother, Sylvia Parr, has been a resident at Dunniwood Lodge since August 2005 and I have never had the slightest cause for complaint. On the contrary, I have nothing but praise and thanks for the staff who act in a very caring and professional manner. No matter what their position at Dunniwood - kitchen staff, laundry worker, cleaner, office staff or carer, I have always found that they all show concern over the welfare of residents and their families. They all show kindness and give well over and above their job role. The carers, even if they are on duty in a different part of the home, all give care and attention beyond what I would understand to be their job description. They are all genuine in their desire to ensure that my mother is comfortable and happy and I can honestly say that it is like having additional family members. Whilst I applaud the introduction of an awards scheme, I would find it impossible to single out one member of staff as deserving recognition. In fact, I would be totally unable to do so - all staff are friendly yet courteous, extremely caring and concerned about the comfort and well being of residents and perform their duties over and above what would normally be expected and as if it's a pleasure rather than a job. I feel that Dunniwood staff as a whole should be recognised and I give my sincere thanks for the many kindnesses shown to my mother and myself during her stay there. - Barbara J Camm
Caroline Ridlington, Kelly Meceneney, Lynne Pollard and Dee Male, Sandhall Park, Goole (6 April) - I would like to nominate Caroline, Kelly and Lynne for their kindness and care they give to my mother. Their standards never drop and they do all they can to create a happy atmosphere as well as doing their routine jobs. I would also like to nominate Dee who works in the kitchen and always makes time to have a chat with my mother. Her room is opposite the kitchen and it means a lot to her. I'm sure all the staff at Sandhall Park do a great job but these staff are the ones I have most contact with when visiting. - Mrs J. Bullass
David McClintock and John Elsworth, Warren Park, Sheffield (29 March) - We recently needed to seek support from our sister home at very short notice when we had unexpected staff illness. Both David in arranging cover, and John who actually came to help out, were extremely prompt in their responses to our request. They both offered what assistance they could and made a difficult day easier. My sincere thanks to them both, they are a credit both to themselves and the home. Thank you. - Sharon Radford and all the staff at Parklands
Tarleen Kapoor, Miranda Cooper, Dawn Forsey, Becky Lifely, Andrea Phelps, Elena Pushkova and Michelle Curtis, Pondsmead Care Home, Oakhill, Somerset (23 March) - All these staff do such a wonderful job. Thank you. - Amanda Karpinski
Lynn Dove, Birchlands, Haxby, York (17 March 2011) - My mother Mrs M Turner would like to nominate Lynn Dove the Housekeeper at Birchlands for the support she has given in enabling my mother to still have an important part in caring for her husband, Geoffrey Turner, who is a resident at Birchlands Care Home. My father suffered a devastating stroke 4 years ago, and, after 62 years of married life together, they faced a future apart. The key to making this stage of their relationship as palatable as possible worked as my mother continued to launder my father's clothes, sew on his name tapes, and all the little things that make their relationship valid. Sadly my mother's eyesight has deteriorated to the point where she can no longer do those jobs for him. But help was at hand - up comes Lynn without asking, and offered that lifeline to my mother and she has continued under mum's ownership to sew on the name tapes etc, etc .. that little thing has made such a difference to the family. It may not be essential but it is all the little things that make a difference. - Jill Crampton (daughter of Geoffrey and Margaret Turner)
Susan Dales, Birchlands, Haxby, York (17 March 2011) - I would like to nominate Susan Dales as the care she gives is 100% and more. Nothing is too much trouble for her when I ask her to do things for me she is extremely understanding. - Mr John Carpenter
Richard Bond, Birchlands, Haxby, York (15 March 2011) - I would like to nominate Richard Bond for the care he gives throughout the home. - Miss Audrey Cass
Chris Talbot, John Purcell, Elizabeth Round, The Willows, Codsall (12 March 2011) - I would like to nominate Chris, John and Elizabeth who work at The Willows, Codsall, Wolverhampton. They are hard working, cheerfl and kind and it's very comforting to know that the residents are treated like members of the family. - Vicky Pearson
Lynne Dove, Birchlands, Haxby, York (11 March 2011) - I would like to nominate Lynne the Housekeeper for doing such a good job, keeping such high standards of cleanliness and for maintaining a high morale amongst her staff. - Rosemary Cartmell
All the staff, Valley Park, Wombwell, Barnsley (10 March 2011) - We have been attending Valley Park Care Home for the last 3 years since my wife Joyce was admitted following a stroke. We have got to know the older carers and the young ones by attending everyday. Being a carer or a nurse in a care home is a very demanding job and to cope with long shifts you have to have dedication and patience. Everyone at Valley Park is so dedicated - my wife loves them all. One or two of them in my opinion go over and above their job roles - Mrs Carol Leeds when she puts residents in bed will say "Goodnight, God Bless - see you in the morning", Mrs Caron Paget on the residential wing is very highly spoken of. The Cook Wendy makes cakes for coffee afternoons. The money raised goes to the residents' fund - well done Wendy. Mrs Jane Bagnall is a born comedian and doesn't know it! - She makes us laugh and the residents too! - Geoff and Martyn Steer
All the staff, Birchlands, Haxby, York (10 March) - It's difficult to nominate one member as all the staff who look after Mum are caring and thoughtful. There is a lovely, friendly atmosphere in the home and Mum is very well looked after. - Michael & Betty Barrand
Elena Pushkova, Dawn Forsey, Becky Lifely, Alan Perry, Pondsmead, Oakhill, Somerset (8 March) - Since I have started at Pondsmead all the above staff have been really friendly and are brilliant carers. They treat all the residents with the upmost dignity and respect. Nothing is too much trouble for them, no matter how big or small the task. Thank you. - Michelle Curtis
Andrew Fletcher and Linda Buffham, Dunniwood Lodge, Bessacarr, Doncaster (8 March) - I would like to say how hard Andrew Fletcher worked during Kelly's maternity leave. He had so many issues to deal with during this time including the lift, heating, television reception, staffing problems and his own father's health problems. He worked tirelessly to keep things on track. The 3 senior carers all need a mention but especially Linda Buffham who worked endless sessions. They were the 'glue' that held Dunniwood together. May I also say that both Kelly and Andrew decorated the corridors and reception in their own time to improve the environment for the residents. - E. Parsons
Ann Blake, Dunniwood Lodge, Bessacarr, Doncaster (7 March 2011) - Ann is kind, helpful, thoughtful and dedicated. A genuine carer. - Joan Spittlehouse
Annie Dodds, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop (6 March 2011) - I would like to nominate your employee Miss Annie Dodds for a Care Star Award. She assisted my mother, Mrs Evelyn Hunt on the Welbeck Suite at Rufford Care Centre when she recently had a fall and cut her head. She travelled with my mother to the Bassetlaw Hospital where it was diagnosed that my mother had broken her hip. Over the week my mother was in hospital, Annie visited her a number of times, all of which were in her own free time. I find this above and beyond the call of duty, particularly in such a young person as she is. Due to myself working abroad, it was a few days until my partner and I could return and Annie's visits were really well appreciated. We have thanked Annie ourselves but felt it really necessary to bring this to your attention. She is without doubt a credit to your company. - Alan Hunt
Sandra Woodall and Jenny Boucher, Nethercrest Residential, Netherton (5 March 2011) - My mother is Olive Foster who is a resident of Nethercrest Residential Home in Netherton. The home is run by Donna and all her staff are fantastic. There are two staff members that stand out. They are Sandra Woodall and Jenny Boucher. Sandra is always full of hugs and kisses for my mum and always helps my mum in any way she can. Jenny is another member of staff that will go out of her way to be helpful and kind. I would like to nominate these carers for all the good work that they do. - Anna Coley
Mandy Hepworth, Parkside Care Home, Barnsley (4 March 2011) - I nominate Mandy for a Care Star Award. I think she does such a wonderful job and she is such a caring person. She is so ver kind, not only to the residents of Parkside, but also to their families visiting the home. - Mrs P English
All the staff, Valley Park, Wombwell, Barnsley (4 March 2011) - I would find it very hard to nominate just one or two people as all the staff at Valley Park do such a magnificent job. To name one would not be fair to the rest. - Freda Trout
Wendy Warburton, Parkside Care Home, Wombwell, Barnsley (1 March 2011) - I would like to nominate Wendy for a care star award. Wendy has always shown a great deal of kindness and compassion towards my mother who goes to Parkside quite regularly for respite care. Wendy is so welcoming each time Mum goes and makes it clear she sees her as "family" and it is obviously more than just a job to her. As Mum has deteriorated there have been occasional difficulties, but instead of shrugging them off, Wendy has clearly thought them through and come up with solutions to make things easier for Mum. She is very kind, thoughtful and professional and this also extends to ourselves as well as to Mum. It is so reassuring to know Mum is so well cared for by people such as Wendy who clearly puts so much into her work. I wish Wendy all the best for this award and would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her care and kindness.
- Jackie
Debbie Walton, Parkside Care Home, Wombwell, Barnsley (1 March 2011) - I would like to nominate Debbie for a care star award. My mother regularly attends the home for respite care and I cannot praise Debbie enough for her care and kindness towards my mother and ourselves. Mum lives with us and Debbie never fails to accommodate her for respite whenever we need it. Unfortunately these times are becoming more frequent due to her deterioration. If it was not for Debbie's compassion and care we would be experiencing many difficulties. Debbie is so dedicated and passionate about her job and this is reflected in the way she cares for my mum and all the other residents. Even when we have thought there may be a time when Debbie would be unable to accommodate Mum, e.g. if the home is full at a time when we need respite, she has gone above and beyond what would be expected of her to find an alternative for us. Not only has she obviously given it a great deal of thought, it has been a solution which is totally agreeable to us. Even though Mum is not a permanent resident, Debbie treats her as one of "the family", and as a result we see Parkside as her second home and not just a place to give us a break. Not only is Debbie there for Mum, she is there for us as well, and I know I am able to ring her at any time, whether Mum is there or not, to discuss anything with her. Nothing is too much trouble for her and as a result of her care and compassion, we are able to leave Mum there without worrying about her, which is so reassuring for us. I would like to say a massive thank you to Debbie from Mum, my husband, my daughter and myself, for all that she has done. Without this care and kindness I am not sure what we would have done. I wish her all the best for this award which she so deserves. With kindest regards - Jackie
Vicky Redwood, Jenny Boulcher, Sandra Woodall, Diane Harding, Jenna Young, Nethercrest Residential, Netherton (1 March 2011) - I would like to nominate 5 staff from Nethercrest Residential for care star awards. Vicky has been my mother, Mrs Neville's key worker and has taken mom out for shopping trips which she thoroughly enjoyed. Vicky works very hard so that residents can enjoy outside interests. Jenny Boulcher, who was our first contact with the home on mom's arrival, has always been very pleasant to us, explaining about home life and put our minds at ease. Sandra, Diane and Jenna handled an incident when one of the residents was distressed and trying to get out of the home. They were professional, calm, sat the lady in question down and dealt with the matter in a very sensitive, caring way. I have been visiting the home now for six months and find Donna and Julie's running of the home is excellent. - Diane Hall
Tanya Woodward, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop (1 March) - Tanya is a valuable member to the care home. She has overcome some personal problems in order to become a senior carer. Tanya is always at hand with advice and helps staff reach their goals. Nothing is too much trouble for her - she is always at hand to help. - Kerry Swinburn
Sheila Gresham, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop (28 February) - Sheila is always at hand even on her day off and goes far more than that extra mile for service users and staff. - Kerry Swinburn
Sue Wheeler and Kerry Roberts, The Willows, Codsall, Wolverhampton (25 February) - Sue and Kerry are always kind and considerate to the residents and cheerful and polite, even under pressure, adding to the happy atmosphere that the manager and staff create at all times. - Mrs V Pearson
All the staff of Castle Meadows Care Home, Dudley (25 February) - To all the staff who were involved with the care of my mother Gladys White - We would like to express our sincere thanks for the care you gave Gladys during the last months of her life. There is no doubt that her quality of life improved due to the company of yourselves and other residents, especially Evelyn and Irene. We appreciate your thoughtfulness in enabling the 'Three Degrees' to sit together and to develop their friendship and camaraderie. In particular we wish to thank you for your sensitivity and readiness to nurse Gladys during the last two weeks of her life when she became increasingly dependent, and to allow her to die in the comfort of her own bed with loved ones by her side. We have to thank Geraldine and Janet for the support and comfort they gave on that day, and also Debbie for allowing us to stay until all our family arrived and we were ready to say our final goodbyes. We always felt welcome and comfortable when visiting Gladys, and staff were friendly and involved, and informed and consulted us on all issues relating to her care. Maureen kept us fully informed of all concerns and actions taken. A most sincere thanks to you all. - Eileen and Roy Shaw
Donna Baker and all the staff, Nethercrest Residential, Netherton (14 February) - Mom is looking so well - she really is having a better social life than she's ever had (she was never one for mixing as she's always been very shy), and I'm glad she's got that now. As always Donna, you have my very grateful thanks. You have a big responsibility caring for the elderly, not a job everyone could do. You all do an amazing job and I'm sure there are many relatives out there who are as grateful to you and your staff as I am. - Mel Gutteridge
All the staff, Roseleigh Care Home, Middlesbrough (6 February) - I am writing on behalf of my family to express our huge appreciation of the staff at Roseleigh. Every single member of staff has shown and continue to show the utmost care, love and dedication to Lucy Hubbard, my mother, since the very first day she entered Roseleigh, nearly a year ago. Initially, she went to Roseleigh for respite care, but she was so impressed with the staff she met that after a week, she asked us if she could stay there and she had lived with me, her devoted daughter, for the past thirty years! We never cease to be amazed by the exceptional staff who treat everyone they come into contact with, residents and their families, with great respect and humanity. I have never before witnessed such commitment to work, above and beyond the requirments from any group of people. The ethos in Roseleigh of total involvement with residents and family care is palpable and remarkable from the moment you enter the home. My mother, aged 87, is so happy there, so well cared for, that we have always felt secure in leaving her in such capable and loving hands. Rachel the Manager of Roseleigh must have a wonderful gift for team selection, team building and team satisfaction, as every apect of the team's support, one for another, is evident constantly. We do express our gratitude to the team and hope that everyone realises how much we appreciate them, as outstandingly caring professionals and wonderful human beings. It is truly humbling to observe such real commitment and care. We are so happy for everyone concerned that such care homes exist as they have such an important role to play in our society. Please note at the highest levels of your organisation what an outstanding team work at Roseleigh. - Alma Hellaoui
Paul Ridsdale, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop (3 February) - I have recently started working at Rufford and would like to nominate Paul for a star as he has made a lasting impression on me with the care and devotion he applies to the residents. What has impressed me most is that he not only shows this when someone is around but carries it through when he is unaware that anyone is watching him. I have witnessed Paul feeding a bedridden resident who is blind and almost totally deaf (he was not aware I was in the room). He was talking to her and giving her the care that I would want for any of my relatives. He is kind, caring and a very good carer. He helps everyone who needs it and that includes new members of staff who, like myself, have benefitted from his knowledge and experience of the job. Paul deserves recognition for the way he applies the true meaning of caring to the title Care Assistant. - Lynn Tyler
Lynn Tyler, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop (2 February) - Lynn is very sympathetic and caring towards all residents and staff. - Paul Ridsdale
Faye Wright, Donna Baker, Kelly Spaven, Magdelena Chingaipe and Laura Dent, Birchlands, Haxby, York (2 February) - They are the wonderful carers who have looked after my brother Eric, helping him to eat and drink, getting him from a life in a wheelchair to getting him into a lovely reclining seat. He really was cared for, looked after and spoken to with warmth and respect. They genuinely cared for his every needs. My family and I were always made to feel welcome and also cared for, whatever time of day or night we called. Nothing was too much to ask. The home is professionally run and what struck my family and I was that the theme of real care is so very obvious. Well done all of you. - Alan Winstanley
Marie Holdway, Birchlands, Haxby, York (2 February) - When my brother first arrived at the home and we met Marie, her listening and caring attitude were first class. She made sure she understood his condition and needs. She rapidly got hold of medical information and took action to make sure all his medical needs had been identified. Marie gave me her heartfely sympathy when Eric passed away - a professional and caring person- as all the staff at Birchlands are. Thank you. - Alan Winstanley
Michael Selecky, Birchlands, Haxby, York (2 February) - For making sure my brother Eric was cared for - in particular for shaving Eric's beard and really looking after his physical appearance. I know all the staff did bathing and other things but Michael seemed to take an interest in Eric (who many years before was seriously injured playing rugby) - he got him watching sport, chatted to him, helped with his food and well being and made sure he was bathed and cared for as a brother might have done. Thank you. - Alan Winstanley
Lizzie Presley, Birchlands, Haxby, York (2 February) - For getting to know and understand my brother Eric, his disabilities and needs, and making sure that the medical advice and attention he needed was as good as it could be, especially in regard to pain and breathing relief. He was never just another person to care for and that would appear to be the case for other people as well. - Alan Winstanley
Sindhu Jose, Birchlands, Haxby, York (2 February) - Sindhu was extremely good with Eric who was not sure whether he wanted to be admitted - initially for respite. However she gave him support and encouragement and understanding which made a huge difference to his comfort. Although my brother Eric faded in the time he was there I can say that she did help enormously with his needs to make sure he was properly cared for. - Alan Winstanley
Mini Luckose, Tony Matthew, Anu George, Birchlands, Haxby, York (2 February) - For the special care and attention to my brother Eric who passed away on 28 January 2011. They with Sini, already nominated, made sure that he was comfortable towards his end and when he passed away, my son Alex and I were so touched by the way the staff behaved. They gave dignity and respect in changing him and seeing that he was laid peacefully. The white rose and pink carnation that they placed on him was touching. Their sympathy and support was wonderful. - Alan Winstanley
Sini Minimol, Birchlands, Haxby, York (2 February) - For her special care and attention to Eric, my brother, who passed away peacefully on 28 January 2011. - Alan Winstanley
Abigail Nichols, Sunnymead Manor, Bristol (5 January) - During a traumatic period for me, putting a wife of sixty two years of marriage into someone else's care, Abbie showed quite outstanding understanding, kindness and quite eased my apprehension. Despite the recent criticism of Sunnymead I have found the staff very good in general, but this young woman was quite exceptional. - Kenneth G. Hayward
All staff members, Valley Park, Wombwell, Barnsley (5 January) - I would like to thank all the staff at Valley Park for their continued hard work, commitment and support over the last 12 months. Your main priority is always the health and wellbeing of our residents, you are what makes this home what it is and you are a credit to the company. You often go the extra mile, giving up your own time for fundraising and other events, I sincerely appreciate all you do and I'm sure the residents do as well. I look forward to another year of working with you. - Jane Bennett
All staff members, Headingley Court, Edlington, Doncaster (30 December) - I would like to thank all the staff at Headingley Court for their dedication and extra help in covering shifts during the recent bad weather. I would especially like to thank Carole Hancock for changing rotas to ensure shifts were covered during this period and for covering shifts during my annual leave. - Sarah Archdale
All staff members, Parklands, Wombwell, Barnsley (5 December) - I would like to nominate all staff members for their service above and beyond the call of duty during the current bad weather. All of the staff have worked together in a fantastic way to ensure the continued support and excellent service delivery to all of the residents during this difficult time. They have walked to work, stayed overnight, worked double shifts and done all they could to ensure that the residents have not experienced any disruption to their lives. My sincere thanks to you all. Your team spirit and dedication to duty is amazing. - Sharon Radford
Maureen Webster, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop, Nottinghamshire (21 November) - Maureen is a lovely and hardworking person who is well liked by staff and residents. She makes me smile every day and is a pleasure to work with. I am proud to call her my friend - thank you Maureen. - Lynne Layhe
Anne Sutherland and Lynne Hunter, Headingley Park, Edlington, Doncaster ( 15 November) - I would like to take this opportunity to nominate both Anne and Lynne for the Care Star Award. Both of these amazing people have worked at Headingley Park Care Home for many years. Anne originally worked as a laundry assistant and Lynne as a kitchen assistant, but their love and passion for caring for the service users encouraged them both to transfer to care assistant roles.
In September 2009, both care workers signed onto the government funded Adult Apprenticeship programme, this was extremely daunting for them both, due to the fact that it had been many years since either had taken part in any educational activity. The Adult Apprenticeship programme consists of 3 separate qualifications, these being: English and Maths, Technical Certificate and Care Level 2 NVQ qualification.
Throughout the period of time that Anne and Lynne spent on training, they have committed countless hours of their private time in order to produce the work set by Craig Swan, their Key Skills and Technical Certificate Assessor. The work they have produced is exemplary. Thereafter, I have had the pleasure of assessing both Anne and Lynne's work performance and knowledge in relation not only to the care NVQs, but also in their provision of a quality service for the residents at Headingley Park.
I have been as Assessor for 21 years, and throughout this time have rarely seen the level and degree of competence, care and commitment as demonstrated by the aforesaid.
Anne and Lynne are passionate about the service they provide and, as such, the service users and their families associated with Headingley Park should take confidence in the fact that these 2 amazing care workers are part of Headingley Park's multi-disciplinary care team, managed by Jackie Gaunt, who strives to promote the delivery of total quality care in her home. - Nanette Swan, Director of Training for Mimosa Healthcare Group
Judith Cumiskey and Rosemary Cartmell, Birchlands Care Home, Haxby, York (12 November) - I would like to nominate Judith for creating the happy and well run home that Birchlands is, and Rosemary for the kind and generous care she showed my mother-in-law Irene Trollope who had Motor Nuerone Disease and sadly passed away on 10th November. Thank you to all the lovely staff x. - Barbara Trollope
Lynne Laythe, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop, Nottinghamshire (12 November) - I would like to thank Lynne for all her hard work and commitment on the Clumber Unit. She deserves more than this award. Thank you Lynne. - Christopher Wilson
Helen Hanstock and Stephanie Ludlam, Warren Park Care Home, Chapeltown, Sheffield (4 November) - I would like to nominate Helen and Stephanie for all their help and support at our Halloween Party on Thursday October 28th. - James Cranmer
Christine Bellamy, Byron Lodge, Rotherham (1 November) I would like to nominate Christine Bellamy for a Mimosa Care Star Award in recognition for the work she did in helping make our Golden Wedding a successful occasion. Nothing was too much trouble for her to do. Not only did I notice how hard she worked, but my family also mentioned how caring and pleasant Christine was in helping everyone to enjoy the occasion. I could not have managed without her help and she certainly deserves this award. - Mrs Grace Bingham
All the staff, Longlands Care Home, Middlesbrough (28 October) My mam, Mrs Keen, is a client in your Longlands Care Home . I would like to say it is a very nice place and all the staff are very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for them if my mam needs anything. The home is always very clean and tidy. My mam enjoys joining in with the activities that the co-ordinator organises. When my mam was taken into hospital, Jenny and two of the staff were there when me and my family arrived there. We didn't think my mam was going to pull through but Jenny and the staff didn't leave the hospital until mam was OK. This shows how caring the staff are. I and my family would like to say how caring all the staff are and a big thank you to them all . I would recommend Longlands to anyone. - Christine Ellis and family
Louise Trow and Shelley Stone, Rufford Care Centre, Worksop (14 October) Louise and Shelley are dedicated carers and not only care for the residents but for their work colleagues too. Every shift worked with them is a good one and they are always there if anyone needs to talk or needs help. Thanks to both of you. - Debbie Wilson
Janice Vaughn, Parklands Care Home, Wombwell, Barnsley (1 October) Janice never fails to make everyone smile! She is very professional at her job but also very caring and kind towards our residents, always going that extra mile to make everyone happy. Janice has only been with us a short while but is a much appreciated and refreshing addition to our staff at Parklands. - Rebecca Tingle
Darren Woodhams, Parklands Care Home, Wombwell, Barnsley (15 September) - Darren has been a member of the Parklands care team for over 10 years. On September 4th he made a supreme sacrifice at our Summer Fayre by having his hair and beard shaved off. For heavy rock fan Darren, this was indeed a brave and courageous act. His efforts raised over £600 to purchase a sound system for the residents' lounge and dining areas. We are all immensely proud of Darren and his efforts. He is a highly regarded member of our team and I would like to publicly thank him for all of his efforts. Not only did he give up his long hair and beard, but he also gave up his time to help with organising our Summer Fayre. He also ran the disco and acted as auctioneer. Altogether our day raised over £1100. A resounding success. - Sharon Radford
Jenny Stubbs and all the staff, Longlands Care Home, Middlesbrough - (14 September) - I would like to say a massive thank you to Jenny and all her staff at Longlands Care Home in Middlesbrough. My mam (Joan Naylor) was resident at Longlands from April of this year until approximately five weeks ago when she was admitted to hospital. Although mam deteriorated steadily during her residence at Longlands the staff adapted their tasks to accommodate her growing needs and, with great care, efficiency and kindness, looked after her until her admission to hospital due to her deteriorating health. Mam became totally dependant on the staff for all her needs and I would like to send my appreciation and gratitude to them all, but I feel a special mention must go to June, Pauline, Linda, Shaun, John and Tina, to name just a few. Their job is certainly not easy, but all the staff carry out their daily tasks with a friendly and amiable manner and I was always made to feel very welcome and comfortable when visiting mam.
Unfortunately mam now needs nursing care and has had to be moved into a nursing home as from today, but all my family would have preferred it for mam to have gone back to Longlands if that were at all possible.
I genuinely feel that Jenny and her staff did their upmost to look after mam's needs and comfort during her failing health and I only hope that mam is just as well looked after and as happy at her new nursing home. -Beverley McKinstry
Kayleigh Baron, Moorlands Care Home, Strensall, York - (10 September) - Kayleigh has the patience of a saint !! She seems to be my father's main carer and treats him with respect and dignity despite him contesting her every action. Kayleigh is always happy and finds time for a chat. - Lady Beth Dale
Jenny Stubbs and all the staff, Longlands Care Home, Middlesbrough - (2 September) - My wife and I are writing to express our gratitude for the level of care our mother, Ivy Hindmarsh, enjoys at Longlands, Middlesbrough.
When we took her in 18+ months ago, we thought that following an unhappy time in hospital immediately preceding her admission had marked the beginning of a gradual decline in her general wellbeing. However, far from that being the case, Jenny Stubbs and her team have provided a new lease of life for Ivy. What particularly impresses us is the manner in which the staff take care of her. All of her needs seem to be both anticipated and well covered, but beyond that there's a compassion and kindness that seems to be consistently given. What more could her relatives hope for as they look to ensure her day to day quality of life?
We feel that Ivy has truly found contentment at Longlands, despite always having said that she would never want to 'go into a home'. It's difficult for ourselves to provide anything for Ivy that hasn't already been thought of by Jenny and her colleagues. That makes us feel a little personally inadequate at times, so we hope our nomination for recognition under the Mimosa Care Stars will be accepted - as a thoroughly merited gesture of our appreciation. - Richard and Linda Welch
